The Operators Responsibility

Damage to beams, uprights, bracing & baseplates Is the system being used as intended? Dislodgement of beams, clips etc. Incorrect storage of products in the racking system The Operator needs to be observant at all times when working around racking. The typical things to look for and report immediately are:

  • Damage to beams, uprights, bracing & baseplates
  • Is the system being used as intended?
  • Dislodgement of beams, clips etc.
  • Incorrect storage of products in the racking system

Report Damage!
If the racking is impacted, it must be reported – the racking will most likely still appear to be intact, but a collapse will usually occur a long time after impact. It may not have been the first impact to the racking, it may have suffered several knocks and is on the brink of collapse. Encourage a no-blame culture in the workplace towards racking damage, to increase the probability that an operator is more likely to see something and say something, before it kills someone.
