A number of accessories support racking systems. Some are structural whilst others serve to protect the racking. These can include:

Upright Protection
AS4084 identifies accidental actions such as Forklift impact damage. As such it defines the following:
- An upright protector with a height of not less than 400 mmshall be positioned at the end upright of each run of rackingbetween cross-aisles.
- An upright protector shall be positioned at all those uprights positioned at aisle and gangway intersections.
- The upright protector shall be designed for energy absorption of not less than 400 Nm in any direction at anyheight between 0.1 m and 0.4 m.
- The upright protector shall be positioned in such a way that, after its deformation by absorbing an impact, the upright will not be damaged.
NOTES:
- Uprights other than corner uprights may be protected in adirection normal to the aisle, depending on the preference ofthe user.
- The protection of uprights of racking served by mechanically guided handling equipment may not be necessary.
- As an alternative to the use of upright protectors, the installation may be designed to survive the complete removal of a section at the bottom of an upright.
Note that the requirements regarding upright protection were introduced under the 2012 Standard, there was previously no requirement for this. This applies to post 2012 racking installations only & is not required to be retrospectively installed on existing racking.
