Racking that is under stress can exhibit a number of tell-tale signs.
These include:
- Uprights out of plumb and
- Beams deflecting

In the case of beam deflection manufacturers design their product to deflect to a certain degree.
There is however a difference between a damaged beam and a deflecting beam. If you are not sure if the beam is damaged or simply deflecting, unload the racking. If the beams go back to level they are considered to be okay, if they remain bent they are damaged and should be replaced.
