Any damage to racking structures will reduce its load carrying capacity.  The greater the damage to the component, the greater the reduction in its strength until the component will fail or collapse at, or below, it’s allowable working load.

Damages that requires attention includes:

  • That significantly changes the shape of a structural component, such as a local buckle due, for example, to a forklift truck fork impact.
  • That which significantly bend a structural component, such as a rear forklift truck impact on a low level pallet beam.
  • That which significantly weakens jointed members, such as a weld breakage of a failure of a bolt/anchor.
  • Out of vertical columns.

Other safety items that should be checked include:

  • Looseness of floor fixings
  • Spillage goods
  • Forklift truck deficiencies
  • Missing pallet beam safety pins
  • Missing row spacer
  • Wrong type of pallets
