When referring to racking structure accessories, we’re not talking about bells and whistles, but rather safety and supportive features that are often necessary rather than being an optional extra.  Racking structure accessories contribute hugely to warehouse safety, helping employers meet their legal obligations of ensuring a safe working environment for their employees. Purposely designed and placed to minimise risk, racking structure accessories will help to safeguard people, equipment and inventory.

Each accessory type has a purpose of its own, and not every accessory is needed for every operation.  Below are the most common types of accessories.

Anti collapse mesh

Anti collapse mesh is a more durable and effective solution compared to nylon netted mesh.  This type of mesh is designed to prevent items stored on pallets within the racking structure from becoming loose and potentially falling from the racking structure.  It also provides enhanced security against theft, damage, and injury.

Anti collapse mesh is ideal if the back of the racking structure row which does not require access for both sides are exposed, and particularly if the area behind is in operational use.

Guide rails

Guide rails are installed to control the movement and speed of forklift trucks (FLT) as they navigate narrow aisles in the racking structure system.  These guide rails create a protective barrier that separates the aisle from the racking structure and are commonly found in narrow aisle racking structures.

Load notice boards

Load notice boards (LNB) are designed to be easily readable and provide immediate and important information about the racking structure such as maximum weight loads that the structure has been designed and built to withstand.

Row spacer (back connector)

These spacers enhance the stability of the stacking structures by preventing the uprights from leaning.  They also ensure that there is adequate flue space between the pallets.  This reduces the risk if goods becoming damage or mixed up within the racking structure system.

Sprinkler system

In-rack sprinkler systems are often insisted upon by some insurance providers due to their substantial risk mitigation capabilities. It is composed of pipes and sprinkler heads are positioned within the racking structure in a non-invasive manner, without hindering operations.  In the event of a fire, the manual or automated system could potentially save lives, protect inventory, and safeguard the business.

Support bars

Pallet support bars are installed between the front and rear beams in situations where they may be difficult to see during pallet loading.  These bars assist the operator in aligning the pallet, ensuring that it sits securely.
